This is decidedly THE most beautiful thing I've ever had on my stove ~

Now, to the complaints folks have had in other reviews as well as my personal observations...

First of all, no tea kettle has ever claimed it won't rust. Any of them will rust eventually if you leave water in it.

The whistle: Nice mellow whistle with a pleasant sound to it. Not the ear piercing shriek of my last kettle that I couldn't possibly miss in a million years. This is the perfect kettle for me but I do have very sensitive ears and anything louder or more shrill would offend me deeply.

My last one (same bottom and interior as this one) lasted 10 years before it started to show signs of rust and I abused the crap out of it. I finally threw it out because the handle melted and gave at the bottom (no longer attached to the kettle) ~ it sat closer to the flame than this one does, I'm sure it was my fault as I've always put them on high heat (gas). I want my TEA ~... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars lovely! but delicate, September 17, 2011

Bought this to replace a forgotten-and-ruined "Livestrong" kettle (bought it for the cheerful yellow enamel, didn't realize it was a Cancer Awareness kettle till I got it home). The whistle had broken on that one after about a year of use, anyway.

As others have said, the finish on this one is truly beautiful. It's really light in weight, which is pleasant for use but makes me wonder how long it will be with us. A very nice feature is the latch for the spout lid keeps it either open or closed---you don't have to keep pulling the trigger to pour, like some other kettles. Standard kettle whistle, starts out low and gets shrill. No spattering when you pour, and I think you could get away without a pot holder if it hadn't been on the stove long. Will try to develop the habit of emptying it after use to avoid the possibility of rust---I want to keep this pretty thing on the stove as long as I can.

Update, 11/28: Apparently I don't have the patience, while waiting for... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, July 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Creative Home Satin Splendor 2.8-Quart Whistling Tea Kettle, Chartreuse (Kitchen)
I bought this because our old kettle had a habit of leaking steam from the lid and spout whenever you poured it, burning both my husband and I, and if you didn't wait a good 30 seconds or longer after it stopped boiling water would bubble and spatter out of the spout in all directions. To top it off, the handle was difficult to use and often so hot (from the various steam leakages) you had to use an oven mit or towel. The thing was a health hazard.

This one looks good, holds a decent amount of water for our purposes (two BIG cups of coffee in the mornings) and I have yet to have any steam leak out of the lid or spout. I can hear the water bubbling inside and because of the previous kettle tend to wait for that to stop before I pour, but the spout design on this one does seem to prevent it from spattering out the way it did on the old kettle. The handle is also very easy to use. From a health and safety point of view it's a huge improvement, and I like the color choices too.

Ekco used to make inexpensive but functional kitchen equipment. Apparently not any more. This Tea ketttle is terrible. Not only is it hard to fill it but it is impossible to pour from it with out spilling. I have been trying for months and every time it drips. The spout design is defective. If you buy this tea kettle you will regret it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Chocolate teapot, November 29, 2011
This review is from: GROSCHE INDIGO Heatproof Glass Stovetop Water & tea Kettle 1750 ml 59 fl. oz
I specifically bought this kettle to avoid the plaque of cheap plastic ones which have been foisted on the public. Plasticisers give plastics their flexibility and resilience but leach from the material over time. This process is speeded up enormously when heat is applied. Pure water boiled in a plastic kettle will emerge as water + plasticiser. This synthetic contaminant is harmful, even in tiny amounts.

The Indigo kettle is made of borosilicate glass, a material normally limited to laboratory glassware. The problem with borosilicate is that although it performs well under thermal stress, this characteristic is compromised as the glass gets thicker. Consequently lab glassware intended for direct applied heat is deliberately thin-walled to preserve its resistance to thermal shock. What's thermal shock? Well, if you have a glass vessel full of cold liquid and subject its outer wall to high temperature, the strata of glass on the hot side starts to expand, but the glass on... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars It's not blue!, November 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: GROSCHE INDIGO Heatproof Glass Stovetop Water & tea Kettle 1750 ml 59 fl. oz
The tea kettle is just fine in the way that it works. However, the only thing cobalt in color is the knob on the lid. This misleading photograph advertising the "Indigo" tea kettle shows the kettle partially filled with a blue liquid that matches the tiny circle of blue on the lid. The blue on the lid is the ONLY thing indigo on this Indigo Tea Kettle. FYI: this is a CLEAR glass tea kettle with a blue knob on the lid. Works fine, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love my large tea kettle!, December 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: GROSCHE INDIGO Heatproof Glass Stovetop Water & tea Kettle 1750 ml 59 fl. oz
Love my large 59 oz tea kettle! Exactly as expected. I drink alot of Rooibos tea; which you don't just steep a few minutes, but actually boil and you can add water a couple of times for more tea. This kettle is perfect for this as you can monitor the color the tea.
